TRAVEL. Salamanca. Public Transport
  • From Madrid by Train

Advantages: nice view (including city walls of Avila), no traffic jams.
    Disadvantage: Not very frequent.

Take a taxi from the airport in Madrid to the train station in Madrid (Chamartín). The price for the taxi should be around 25-35 Euros and it takes about half an hour. Tell the driver that you need an official receipt ("necesito un recibo oficial perforado") so he is not tempted to be cheaty.

Alternatively take the metro from the airport to metro stop Chamartín. A metro ticket from the airport to Chamartín costs 2 Euros and takes about 30 minutes. You have to change line only once at Nuevos Ministerios.

Avanza Bus Service, Madrid Airport – Salamanca

Advantage: you don’t have to take the Metro or a taxi to the Estación Sur

Disadvantage: a rather long journey of three and a half hours and no opportunity to buy tickets directly from the bus on the day

Avanza offers three services every day from Madrid Airport (Terminal 1 parking) to Salamanca. The service does not go directly to Salamanca, it stops in the Estación Sur, but you do not have to change buses. The tickets have to be reserved online and if your flight arrives late you cannot change your ticket or get a refund. But there is one direct bus from the Airport to Salamanca (17.00) and one from Salamanca to Madrid Airport at 07.00. The journey lasts three and a half hours (the direct ones 2.40 hours). It costs €16,60 (one way).
