TRAVEL. Barcelona. Travel Tips
  1. The quickest and easiest way to get around Barcelona is the metro which runs from Sunday to Thursday from 0500 – 2400 and from 0500 – 0200 at weekends. When the metro is closed, there is a night bus which covers most parts of
Barcelona. For very short-term stays, the T-10 ticket is ideal.  This gives you 10 bus metro rides (max 1:15 h!) for 6,65 E (about a 50% saving!). It is transferible so if there are two of you you simply swipe it through twice.
For longer stays the T-50/30 gives you 50 rides to be taken within 30 days. Ticket costs 27,55 E and is not transferible.
  2. Barcelona´s main airport is called "Prat". Cheap flights can also be found into Barcelona's periphery airports, Gerona (an hour and a quarter away) and Reus (an hour and a half away). From Gerona Airport, there are shuttle buses to and from Barcelona after every flight; from Reus, trains from early day to late night.
  3. When booking flights, bear in mind that good deals can also be found if you are willing to fly via another European city (including the Balearic Islands).
  4. You will find a list of low cost airlines serving Spain on the links page. It is also worth checking out the more traditional airlines from Spain (Iberia, Spanair, Air europa) and your own country. The initial after the airline indicates the flight's country or origin, though, bear in mind that some airlines like Ryanair and Easyjet have hubs in more than one European country (ie you don't have to fly via the UK).
  5. You can book a flight for pretty much any time you like as the Barcelona main airport is just a 20 minute cab ride away, and the transfer coaches run well into the night.
  6. Barcelona is well-served by international train services and highways from the rest of Europe.
  7. We can also arrange for a rental car to be waiting for you at the airport, and can book a garage for you while you are in Barcelona if you are bringing your car.
  8. It is very important that you let the school offices know when you are arriving at least 3 days before you come to make sure they have time to alert flat owners/flatmates/families. If for some reason there is no one home, first call the contact phone number if there is one or, as a last resort, call the emergency phone number: 660 479 333 (Barcelona).
