SALAMANCA. Top Tips
  • Fresh fish and seafood, crisp Albariño wine and killer Aguardiente at the Galician "Chichos".
  • Canoeing on the Duero River on the Portuguese border. Beach, spectacular scenery and microclimate.
  • Find the froggie on the University's facade and you'll marry within the year, come back to Salamanca again or pass your exams depending who you believe.
  • Feast yourself on tapas in Van Dyck - delicious, enormous and very cheap!
  • University parties from October to June - something wild (especially, worringly, the Medicine Faculty).
  • The Pozo de la Pared swimming hole in the Gredos mountains; will you dive from the very top?
  • If you prefer your bulls alive and strolling between the holm oak trees, take a drive out to the attractive "fincas" about a half hour from Salamanca.
  • The garden of Calixto & Melibea, a romantic and lovingly tended haven.
  • Clavel Ocho. Cool vibe and lovely terrace.
  • La Sardina Restaurant: Roast chicken, lettuce, chips and sangría. And sardines.
  • A day out in the Sierra de Francia. An area of outstanding natural beauty. Swim in the Batuecas valley, try out the aphrodisiac "Ciripolen" drink, visit the many enchanting villages for whom time has stood still and have the best fillet steak in Spain at Mirador, in Mogarraz.
  • And not forgetting tiny and charming "La Calleja" where the music is flamenco and the decor: bullfighting.
  • The Zamora bodegas labyrinth - not for claustrophobes as they are down over 40 steps. Cool in summer and not too cold in winter!
