Our Teaching Methods

" The teachers are such great fun and the relationship you share with

them isn´t the traditional one of distance that I was used to England

but more one of good friendship. This means that you learn loads but at

the same time don´t really realize how much you´re taking in. " Freddie

Teaching Method

Classes at ISLA combine grammar with practise of the 4 skills - reading,
writing, listening and, of course, speaking.

The word "grammar" conjures up images of chalk boards and creaky desks!  But
the basics, like the foundations and shell of a house, are pretty, er, basic
to your learning as they offer a place on which to build knowledge and in
which to keep it.  Your power of recall will be so much better if you know
in which room or cupboard your sentences are stored.

But classes at ISLA are not about boring drills and gap-filling. Traditional exercises are usually left for homework and students enjoy "task-led" learning so they can see the practical results of their Spanish quickly.

Out experienced teachers know a lot about classroom dynamics and are careful to create an inclusive atmosphere in which students have the confidence to talk Spanish.

As well as being fun, learning is organized.  Students are provided with ISLA's own multi-lingual glossaries which are organized by level so they can check their progress or themselves.  We favour a chosen text book as copies from lots of different books have little sequence ...  and in the last Action hour our teachers let rip with dynamic spoken activities which follow on seamlessly with that learned earlier.
